Hand Grenade Mouse

October 6, 2008 by admin
Filed under Desktop Gadgets, Laptop Gadgets

Well, I’m quite an intensive computer user and go through more than my fair share of computer mouses, actually at the last count I’m up to my fourth one for the year.  Based on my poor record of breaking those this little Hand Grenade Mouse caught my eye as being something that may be a little more robust.

Manufactured as a mod, this little mouse gadget must be the ultimate gamers mouse especially for those playing war of attrition online games. Not a lot is known about the mouse itself except it is actually crafted from an old grenade casing (don’t worry though the pin is still in). Looking cool is all well and good but I can imagine the mouse not being the most comfortable of products to use. So weighing all that up would you rather have a mouse that looked good or felt good, what do you think?

Acer Aspire Predator G7700 desktop PC

October 5, 2008 by admin

Acer, the Taiwanese PC company has announced its latest creation into the desktop marketplace called the Aspire Predator. Before looking at the specifications of the PC I must say I am already impressed by the design of it. The Aspire Predator comes with a G24 widescreen LCD display making it ideal for gaming. So with such an aesthetically pleasing outside appearance is it as impressive inside as well?

Here goes. First the processor, is an Intel Core Quad processor powerful enough for you? I somehow think the processor is not going to be the bottleneck in this system somehow. Next the graphics card, well the Acer Aspire Predator comes with NVIDIA’s GeForce 9 Series graphics card so there won’t be any issues here with outputting images for the most demanding of games.

One of the problems with gaming is the heat generated internally by the demanding nature of playing video games online. However, the Predator solves this problem by running a state of the art liquid cooling system that ensures all hardware components run at optimum temperature which ensures maximum performance with no damage due to overheating.

Estimated price of the Acer Aspire Predator Desktop is $1,649.

Sans Digital 42TB External Storage System

August 26, 2008 by admin

Sans Digital have revealed details of their AccuRAID AR442F4 external storage system. The target audience is datacenters looking for massive storage capacity, i.e. 42TB and featuring RAID 6.

For those of you who don’t know Raid 6 (Wikipedia):

Striped set with dual distributed Parity. Provides fault tolerance from two drive failures; array continues to operate with up to two failed drives. This makes larger RAID groups  more practical, especially for high availability systems. This becomes increasingly important because large-capacity drives lengthen the time needed to recover from the failure of a single drive. Single parity RAID levels are vulnerable to data loss until the failed drive is rebuilt: the larger the drive, the longer the rebuild will take. Dual parity gives time to rebuild the array without the data being at risk if one drive, but no more, fails before the rebuild is complete.

The External Storage contains 42 bays, with each drive being hot-swappable. Bandwidth is provided by the fibre channel, that’s right normal USB or eSATA ports are not up to scratch for this beast.

Oh yeah, one thing i forgot to tell you, the Sans Digital AccuRAID AR442F4 external storage device has a price tag of $15,000. So how many do you want, one or two?
