Polaroid GL10 Instant Mobile Printer

The concept may not be entirely new itself, but the longing for something tangible runs old. Although the common trend nowadays is to simply have photos taken by a mobile phone and have those uploaded on social networking sites to share with friends, there’s a company that still looks into the needs of those who wish for something more palpable.

Not straying far from their initial idea, Polaroid has come up with an instant mobile printer, the GL10. This Polaroid GL10 Instant Mobile Printer is able to print 3”x4” photos and its size is hardly bigger from the photos it prints. Connectivity has been carefully sorted out and the printer has been made to link by a normal USB cable or wirelessly by Bluetooth. The printer’s mobility is primarily catered for those who are on the go, but the printer could also come in handy for those who prefer a convenient printing process.

When it comes to a mobile printer, a commonm question that may prompt buyers is the price of the cartridge refill. For this review, it’s unique that there’s no price tag attached for it as the printer doesn’t run on ink at all.

Using the ZINK technology, the Polaroid GL10 instant mobile printer holds heating elements that would warm up the ink that’s imbedded in the photo paper itself. Whereas usual films produce images by light, the ink within the photo papers is activated by heat. As there’s a special insulation for the ink within the photo paper, the photos that are printed are both smudged proof and also water resistant too.
