Dolby updates their 3D Glasses

 

If you are a movie buff then the chances are you have been to the cinema to see a 3D film (Toy Story in 3D was awesome).  3D is the latest technology to enhance our viewing on the big screen, however it seems the glasses that enable us to view films in 3D are spoiling our experience. I can confirm that every set of glasses I have worn has been chunky, and made me feel uncomfortable after sitting for so long with them on.

One reason why I and others do not like wearing them is because they are heavy compared with normal glasses. Dolby have listened to this feedback and announced at CinemaCon 2011 that they have been working with 3M to develop a new multiplayer optical film lens that will be significantly lighter than current 3D glasses.  These newer glasses will have various extra features such as anti-theft technology and individually serialized RFID tags. The glasses will be lighter because of the thinner lenses in the glasses compared with the thick lens available currently.

The new 3D glasses will come with instructions for how to wash and clean the lenses so that they can be reused hundreds of times.  The best part of this announcement is that these cost saving but stylish 3D glasses will be made available for only $12. Currently, only adult 3D glasses are available; however children’s-sized glasses will be available soon.
