NuVinci Harmony

Fallbrook Technologies have introduced some pretty successful e-bike shifting systems over the past few years. The newest system from Fallbrook Technology is pretty impressive, and much better compared to its predecessors. It is called the NuVinci Harmony, which is an automatic shifting system designed for electric bike technology.
The NuVinci Harmony operates with the NuVinci’s N360 Continously Variable Planetary (CVP) drivetrain. The Harmony is built as a separate unit and mounts inside the rear dropout, pulling power from any electric bike battery from12-48 volts DC. For those e-bikers who tend to leave their bikes in one constant gear, which can overwork the electric motor, this automatic shifting system is just the solution.

There are two NuVinci Harmony models – advanced rider and basic rider. With the advanced rider controller, you are able to find exact cadences and set the cadence of your liking. Then, the system will make adjustments according to the wind changes or terrain so that the cadence can be maintained. Riders also have the option to switch to manual mode to adjust the ratio manually. On the other hand, controller for the basic rider is of a much simpler set-up, and there are 3 programmable settings – slow, medium and fast, that can be pre-set.
The hub interface of the Harmony system weighs around 250 grams, with a quick-release attachment to enable easy wheel removal. You will be seeing the NuVinci Harmony CVP system on electric bikes early next year, with a price range of EUR 2,000 and above.

YikeBike Fusion Electric Folding Bike

Folding electric bikes are not new. In fact, YikeBike has introduced them way back in 2009 but the carbon fibre model was a tad expensive at $3,795.
Now they have just added the YikeBike Fusion to their collection, a more affordable folding bike model with a price tag of $1,995.
So how did that become possible, you ask yourself.
Apparently, YikeBike substituted more affordable materials like reinforced polymer composite and alloy for some of the more expensive carbon fibre materials. But you have to pay the price for the cheaper version and that’s more than three kilograms in added weight.
Up to 250 carbon fibre bikes have been sold last year to various customers including celebrities like Jackie Chan.
Now comes the new toy for the big boys out there—a slightly heavier, but cheaper version of the folding bike. Don’t expect the original carbon fibre folding bikes to go on sale though, because they will be reserved for those who can afford the high-end version which will be sold through the website of YikeBike. The cheaper version will then be sold by distributors as a standard version.
The carbon fibre folding bike weighs only 10.8 kg while the Fusion version weighs 14 kg. If you want to leave as little carbon footprint as possible but just could not afford the hefty price tag of the original carbon fibre folding bag, then here’s your chance to get the cheaper version.
Well, 3kg is not much of a weight considering the savings you can get from the purchase of the Fusion. Anyway, you can still enjoy its 23 km per hour speed while protecting the environment.
