R2-D2 Drum Smoker

With the summer approaching it is vital that you have a decent barbecue that is as good or ideally better than your neighbors.  Most barbecues are designed to be easy to use and clean. The problem with these barbecues is that they are not very appealing to look at. In my opinion the food doesn’t have to just taste good, and the beer taste great, but you have to look good while cooking.

With today’s outside R2-D2 drum smoker made out of a 55-gallon drum, and finished with an R2-D2 paint job you can be the envy of all your Star Wars friends.  There is always the risk that you may get labeled as a nerd, but I would not care, it looks cool in our eyes.

Many regular barbequing folk will label this device pre-paint job as an Ugly Drum Smoker. However, with some spray paint and a good imagination you can change it into anything you want. Guaranteed to be cheaper than a gas burning grill, with a designer drum burner like this R2-D2 one you can be the envy of all your friends. Not sure how long the paint job will last or how it will react to the heat though.

Eton Raptor Solar Survival Tool

This device may look like a rugged handheld but don’t be fooled by what you see outside because there’s lots more inside.  The Eton Raptor Solar Survival Tool is basically an emergency radio but with loads of other features.

This is a survival tool in the real sense of the word as its digital clock display comes not only with an alarm to wake you up when needed, but a compass for those times when you can no longer distinguish the right way to go and a digital radio with AM, FM and WB bands. You get the best of both worlds too because the Raptor comes with a DC input and a mini-USB plug.

While those features are already more than helpful for campers and for sophisticated travellers, Eton did not stop there but added some more perks including a barometer and an altimeter, making it one of the best outdoor gadgets.

If you’re thinking about where to put the gadget then don’t worry because you can easily attach it to your bag using the carabiner that comes with the Raptor. And if you consider it an emergency to have a sealed beer in your hand, then thank the Raptor’s makers because they even included a bottle opener.

A lot of people have been waiting for the Raptor to become available commercially ever since they saw it during last year’s CES.  And now that it’s available, you might want to grab one because you never know when you will need it.

The best thing about the Raptor survival gadget is its ability to be recharged with the sun’s juice although you have to wait for 18 hours to do that. If you’re in a hurry, then use the AC adapter or use the USB to plug it into your PC, and you wait for only four hours. And here’s the kicker! You can also use the fully-charged Raptor to recharge your other mobile devices through the USB.

Now, isn’t that great for only $150?

The Best Electric Wine Opener

I am not a big fan of wine, much prefer beer but I know there are a lot of people that do love wine. Having struggled getting the cork out of them a couple of times, I know how hard it can be. This process can be more difficult for older wine drinkers or people unable to grip a corkscrew tight enough. A new kitchen gadget called the Best Electric Wine Opener may help.

Having received a top rating from the Hammacher Schlemmer Institute this Electric Wine Opener could be the best one available to buy currently. It received top marks for its ability to insert the corkscrew into the cork and extract it in a fast and efficient manner.

The device attaches to the neck of the wine bottle and automatically plunges the corkscrew into the cork.  This ensures that the corkscrew enters in the centre of the cork making extraction easier. The best part about it is that opening the bottle of wine requires no force whatsoever for both synthetic and real corks.

The Best Electric Wine Opener should become a popular item in wine drinkers households, being particularly useful for events such as parties and dining as multiple bottles will be opened during the course of the night.

The unit currently runs on battery power with a charging unit included in the price. A full 8 hour charge is capable of de-corking 40 bottles of wine.

Available: Hammacher

Price: $39.95
