With so many excellent point and shoot digital cameras to choose from, Canon remains at the top of their game with the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS 12.1 megapixel digital camera. Canon always delivers top notch quality and the PowerShot ELPH 300 HS is definitely packed with the full range of digital camera features and functions.
But there are a few key features that really stand out with the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS that you’ll be excited to hear about.
At 8/10 of an inch in depth and weighing in at just under five ounces, this new Canon PowerShot is the world’s absolute thinnest point-and-shoot digital camera with a 24mm ultra wide angle lens and a 5x optical zoom and optical image stabilizer. But don’t let the thin dimensions fool you, this camera shoots fantastic pictures.
The small CMOS image sensors in these compact digital cameras have always been the limiting factor with image quality and performance. Canon brings together two powerful advances in technology that make the PowerShot ELPH 300 HS really stand out.
Canon improves the PowerShot ELPH 300 HS with a backside illuminated HS (high sensitivity) CMOS image sensor. The 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor positions the light-receiving surface for optimal light reception. The Canon HS System greatly improves your ability to shoot pictures in low-light situations without the need for a flash.
Working hand-in-hand with the CMOS sensor is Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor which actively reduces image noise and is responsible for the camera’s ability to deliver high speed image processing for both stills and full motion video. The Canon HS technology lowers the noise level at higher ISO settings so you get clearer, sharper pictures without the distortion and graininess in lower light conditions. That also translates to “far fewer dark, under exposed photos” when the lighting conditions aren’t good.
The Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS provides full 1080p HD video with astounding quality and realistic stereo sound. And you’ll like the convenient movie button for easy access. A high speed burst mode lets you capture 8 frames per second, a feature not usually found in these very compact point and shoot cameras.
Simple and easy function takes the guesswork out of operating the camera with smart AUTO intelligence that selects the proper settings for the camera based on 32 predefined shooting environments and conditions. And the 24x optical zoom can operate while you’re shooting video and still keep the video footage stabilized with Canon’s Dynamic IS (image stabilizer) technology. The video capability also supports super slow motion recording at high speeds that provides great slow motion playback. A very nice effect!
Video resolutions and storage capacity provided by the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS.
- Full HD (1920 x 1080) at 30 frames per second for up to 14 minutes 30 seconds, approximately 4GB of storage per clip.
- HD (1280 x 720) at 24 frames per second for up to 20 minutes 40 seconds, approximately 4GB of storage per clip.
- VGA (640 x 480) at 30 frames per second for up to to 43 minutes and 40 seconds or approximately 4GB of storage per clip.
- QVGA (320 x 240) at 30 frames per second for almost 2 hours of shooting time, approximately 4GB of storage per clip.
Have fun with some of the innovative scene modes and special effects the camera offers.
- Toy Camera Effect: Add a cool vintage nostalgia look with the Toy Camera Effect. This effect recreates the classic look by darkening the edges to make them appear as though they were photographed through a pinhole lens, increasing the contrast.
- Monochrome: More flexibility from the usual black and white capability, the monochrome setting lets you choose from three different single-toned effects; black & white, sepia and blue. Very cool effects at the touch of a button.
The Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS delivers brilliant digital photographs, ultra-detailed full 1080p HD video, and is packed with outstanding functionality with all the effects and automatic settings you’ll need. The technology and capability that Canon has engineered into this ultra-slim point-and-shoot camera is truly amazing!

Military Binoculars : No Area For Escape

Man’s desire to view distant objects from a closer perspective gave birth to the concept of a binocular. In ancient time, handheld telescopic monocular was used by sailors at the sea. Then came big telescopes which were used in observatories in the 17th century. The first binocular came in the form of the opera glasses, which were used to view theatrical performances from a distance. Then, one by one, several modifications like use of Keplerian optics, Porro prism, refinements by Carl Zeiss etc have made binoculars in the form we see and use those today.
In modern society, most common binoculars are almost toy-like binoculars. Apart from this, ornithologists and bird watchers use a little bit more powerful binocular to catch the birds in sky or tree. Moreover, law enforcing agencies and defense sector also have use of binoculars to protect law and peace in a country. From the Second World War, the military binoculars have undergone a good development, and in the modern terror infested world, these have been an integral part of a military of a country just like arms and ammunition.
In the Second World War, binoculars had 15 meters of separation between two objective lenses. These heavy binoculars which were called Naval Rangefinders were used to set the range of big naval guns from a distance of 25km. Moreover, in Cold War era, military binoculars could detect active Infrared emission via built-in passive sensors. In more modern military binoculars, special filters can block laser beams used in automatic weapons of the enemy.
As the complexity of keeping peace and law in modern society is continuously increasing, the need for this kind of binocular is more than ever. The modern military binoculars are made in such a way that they can withstand heavy ordeal and rough use. For this, the outer portion of the binoculars is made with materials which can protect it. Besides, in modern military, some special kind of binoculars are used which are called “trench binoculars”. These things are made in conjunction with a binocular and a periscope, and are used from trenches during war which keep the head of the user safe. Moreover most modern military binoculars have arrangements where a soldier can fit be into his/her helmet when necessary.
Most modern military binoculars which are used by army and navy are classified into Military Binoculars with 6×30 service glass, Military Observation Binoculars, 10 x 50 Military R, Military Night Vision Binoculars etc. Each of these comes with normal/wide 50mm optical lens for maximum field of view as well as with rain proofing, fog resistance capabilities. These modern military binoculars have more modern range finding abilities built in it and for using it in darkness, most of such binoculars have Infrared facilities also built in.
The ability which detects laser pointer from enemy weapons has been mentioned earlier. Companies like Leica, Canon, Nikon, Optronics, Pentax, Swift, Simmons and Zeiss etc are building and providing these binoculars, and thus satisfy the need of defense around the globe.
Binoculars may seem like a rather insignificant thing for protecting and maintaining peace in a modern society, but its significance under the lights of points discussed above cannot be ignored.

The iPhone 4 is well-known for its slim design and sleek features, making it convenient to carry around. However, the latest iPhone gadget for the smartphone does not aim to maintain this slimness and sleekness.
The iPhone 4 SLR Lens Mount works exactly like how its name suggests. It is a case-adapter combo for the iPhone 4 which enables a Nikon or Canon lens to be attached to the smartphone for photo-taking purposes. The case is made from aluminum and is removable. It has a loophole on each end so that you can attach a camera strap and lug around your iPhone 4 around your neck like a camera.
The iPhone 4 SLR Lens Mount is serious about turning your iPhone 4 into an actual SLR camera as it comes with a tripod attachment. It even has a special UV filter. What it does not have is a mirror; hence you have to rotate the photographs yourself using an editing application.
Test shots reveal that adding an SLR lens to the iPhone 4 does result in greater depth of field when taking photographs, which comes as good news to photography enthusiasts. However, the autofocus feature on the iPhone 4 will be rendered useless, which may not be a problem after all for expert photographers.
The iPhone 4 SLR Lens Mount has an F-mount adapter for all Nikon lenses and an EF-mount adapter which only works with Canon EOS lenses. Fans can expect to get their hands on one by the middle of August when it is expected to start shipping.
