With the advanced video recording abilities of mobile phones, camcorders seem to have been forgotten about. However, Sony aims to bring camcorders back into people’s thoughts with their latest offering, the Sony Handycam Camcorder with Projector.
Projector technology has been integrated into many modern day devices, for example check out the iPhone Video Projector. Up until recently very few companies other than Viewsonic and Nikon have attempted to attach projectors to camcorders. Sony believes they can better the Coolpix S1000 PJ and DVP5 projector camcorder currently available by these manufacturers with their Handycam camcorder.
One of the best features of the Sony camcorder is its ability to project an image or video 60” in diameter onto a surface such as a wall. This seems amazing when you view the size of the projector on the outside of the viewscreen. Why would you need this feature? This feature lets you share you pictures and videos with your friends or work colleagues without everyone having to be circling around the viewscreen.
Audio from the camcorder is excellent due to the enhanced sound technology incorporated into the Handycam. Crisp audio is picked up from the Zoom microphone and Sony’s Advanced Wind Noise Reduction reduces background interference and noise. Clear Phase stereo speakers and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and a digital amplifier technology produces perfect playback.

If you are looking for video recording at high definition, this gadget stands out as the best one for you.

You may just be wondering just how the HD images are processed by the device? The answer lies in the imaging engine which exists in the device. This is the latest offering from Hammacher, the pocket 3D camcorder capable of recording in three dimensions. With all the latest films and developments in 3D filming it was only a matter of time before it became available. How does it work? Well the camera contains two lenses that work together with the 3 MP image sensor to record images which are slightly different and then entwined to create a video anaglyph (a method of encoding a three-dimensional image in a single picture by superimposing a pair of pictures) – Don’t worry I had to Google that term aswell.
The videos produced are recorded in a 640 x 480 pixel resolution and are saved as AVI files. The 3D camcorder provides access for external memory in the form of a SD card slot, e.g. a 4 GB SD card would allow up to 4 hours of video or 2,000 3D images. Recorded 3D content can be reviewed on the camcorders 3 ¼ TFT display and movies on the 7” screen without the need of wearing glasses, this is because the screen is overlaid with a parallax barrier.
- Speakers and headphone jack.
- USB 2.0 Port for transferring data to computer.
- Rechargeable battery providing up to 2 hours of continuous usage.
The 3D Video Camcorder is available from Hammacher and is priced currently at $599.
